John Freitas, M.D.- Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)
Do you want to fly?
Just as you cannot take to the air as a Private Pilot without a valid pilot’s license, you can’t fly without a current Medical Certificate which confirms that you have no disqualifying health conditions that would prevent you from being a Pilot. A Medical Certificate also serves as the basis of your own self-certification of health, which all pilots are required to affirm before every flight.
An FAA medical certificate is required for most pilots to be able to fly an aircraft. FAA medicals are issued in 3 classes (1st class, 2nd class, and 3rd class), and are valid for different types of piloting activities. You MUST complete the FAA medical application online at https://medxpress.faa.gov/ PRIOR to having your physical examination performed by an AME.
